FAQs

How does the Project work exactly?

The challenge itself consists of committing to pausing your clothing spending for the duration of the 6 week Project, and taking a daily outfit photo each day (or as often as you can!). Alongside this, you’ll work through a different aspect of your relationship with clothing and spending each week with content on the exclusive Project-only podcast, and live or recorded masterclasses.

We move through the Project together in the Facebook group, which will have daily outfit threads, discussion threads about the weekly theme and content, and all links to masterclasses, replays, etc.

What if I don’t have Facebook?

I have gone round and round in circles over alternatives to Facebook Groups, but there’s really just nothing that’s as simple or accessible to everyone. If you don’t have a Facebook account, consider signing up for one just for the challenge and deleting it afterwards.

What if I slip up and buy clothes during the Project?

Hey, it happens. No judgement. If you join the challenge and slip up, you’re still welcome here. In fact, it’ll be a great environment in which to unpack what happened, why it happened, and how to prevent it happening in the future. We welcome you to share your slip ups or struggles throughout the challenge, and if you’d like help to work through it, we’d love to support you. This challenge isn’t about getting a gold star or crawling to the end with a clean sheet. It’s about learning the absolute most we can about our clothing consumption, learning techniques to take forward, and finding joy in the things we already own.

I want to join but I feel like I can’t commit to not buying.

If you’re keen to join the challenge but feel held back by the fact that you know you’re not done buying clothes forever, don’t stress. My question to you would be: why not commit to the challenge, learn a bunch of stuff about your style, your habits, and what you like, and then use that information to buy better in the future? The challenge isn’t just about stopping buying clothing – it’s about learning how to buy better and more sustainably in future. Equally though, if you’re not ready right now, that’s okay. The fact you’re interested is a big step, and you should be proud of that. You can join us next time!

How much time do I need to put into participating?

It’s really a ‘take what you need’ type of situation, but as with many things, the more you put in, the more you’ll get back.

The weekly private podcast will be between 20 and 45 minutes in length. Masterclasses and Opening/Closing ceremonies are around 1 hour each. Discussion and sharing of outfits in the Facebook group is encouraged and takes just a few minutes a day. Many past challengers have said this was their favourite part!
