We did it, fam. We survived the Black Friday sales and came out the other side. Hopefully you too swerved any impulse purchases and managed to use the sales to get purposeful things you were planning on buying anyway.
Here’s everything I bought over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday long weekend and the discounts I scored on each thing. It might give you some ideas on deals to look out for next year, or just give you a little nosey read over your 3pm cuppa.
I’ve wanted to get new bras for AGES, and I’d decided I wanted to get something better than my usual crappy Kmart one that loses its shape support after a few months. I wasn’t even really loyal to the Kmart ones out of frugality – I just didn’t really know where to get good bras in Australia.
After a hugely successful Instagram question box, I found some good recommended brands and started religiously checking them out for Click Frenzy/Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.
I picked up two basic non-padded bras from Berlei at 40% off, bringing them down to about $35 each. Then I got a fancier yet still practical Heidi Klum Intimates one from The Iconic at 30% off (down to $48), and a Marks and Spencer one also from the Iconic, and also 30% off (down to $27). I then got a simple 5-pack of nude high rise briefs because I’m that kinda 28 year old basic badass with no shame. They came down to $17.
I’d also been watching Lonely Lingerie like a hawk, but alas the sales didn’t apply to the items I wanted, so I’ll park that on the wishlist and think about it next year!
I’d wanted to treat myself to a gold plated necklace and bracelet set from a UK jewellery brand called Missoma for MONTHS, and was going to get it for an end-of-year high five to myself for working my butt off this year. But when the website had 25% off (and for some reason a random additional discount when I switched it to the Australian store), I managed to get the $500 set down to $287. No brainer.
I got the Axiom set, and it’s due to arrive via Fedex tomorrow, so tune into my IG Stories to see it!
Everlane didn’t actually end up having a sale, but they did run their Black Friday Fund and donated $10 to Oceana for every purchase. While I’ll admit I’d been hanging out for a 20% off, my moral compass won out and I stocked up on some basics I’d been eyeing up.
I got two cotton sleeveless tops, an oversized white shirt, and some high rise shorts, totalling $244.
One of my coworkers has been raving about the StepOne bamboo underwear for men, so I wanted to get some for Mr TBG to try. The pricing is already a bit strange, giving you a discount for the more you buy, with the cheapest unit price being $15. A few of us at work were going to order together to get the multibuy discount, but I suggested waiting for Black Friday. Lucky we did, as we got each pair for $11.90 each!
The verdict: they’re very soft!
One thing I never expected to get on Black Friday was my website hosting with SiteGround. I’d been meaning to get an account setup for my web designer to start using, and the universe rewarded my tardiness by coinciding my motivation to sign up with a massive Black Friday deal. I got the hosting for $3.30 a month instead of $15!
Another biz-focused saving, but I’d also been meaning to upgrade to Tailwind pro so I could get stuck into Pinterest over the Christmas break. I kept putting off paying the $120 annual fee, but what slithers into my inbox on Black Friday!? A $70 off coupon, getting me the full year for under $50!
Free Month of ClassPass
ClassPass was offering a free month’s trial as their Black Friday special, and since I work in a much more buzzing part of town compared to last summer, I thought I’d sign up and try to squeeze in a yoga class a couple of times in December. Whether I’ll get round to it remains to be seen, but still, it was a freebie!
I can’t say much here in case the recipients read this post, but I did snag a couple of Christmas gifts at 25% off, too!
